St Elmo Playground

Welcome to St. Elmo Playground!

St. Elmo Playground is a community project that was created in the early 2000’s. It was designed by children, made from local materials, and built with love by neighborhood volunteers. The St. Elmo Playground benefits the whole city, and is a fun place for all ages at no cost to the community. The original playground was fully funded by local sponsors, including our team.
All of the sponsors are listed in the image above.

After helping to fund the revamp of Miller Park in downtown Chattanooga, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Foundation announced that they were to continue in their Healthy Places initiative in St. Elmo. In 2021 and the beginning of 2022, BCBST Foundation put $75,000 into fitness and fun improvements to the St. Elmo Playground.

Roy Vaughn, the executive director of the BCBST Foundation said “Our mission at BlueCross is serving our neighbors,
and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate our 75th anniversary than by giving Tennesseeans more spaces
to connect with one another and pursue healthy activities together.”

The improvements at 4909 St. Elmo Avenue include a fitness station, a challenge course,
a community lawn, and children’s play areas for all ages.

Join us for the ribbon cutting ceremony on March 10th at 5pm for the new and improved St. Elmo Playground.
It has been such a honor to be a part of such a rich piece of Chattanooga and St. Elmo history.
